Manaaki Orewa
At Orewa College, we believe values are lived every day, through our words, actions, and how we treat others. Our Manaaki Orewa programme encourages ākonga to practise and embody the principles of manaakitanga: care, respect, and service.
Grounded in the three pou of Manaaki: respect for others, respect for ourselves, and respect for the environment. This long-running school-wide initiative nurtures empathy, builds confidence, and supports the hauora of our kura. Whether it’s in the classroom, on the sports field, or out in the community, our students are recognised for showing kindness, leadership, and integrity.
Through three pathways of acknowledgement: Manaaki Recognition, Manaaki in Action, and Manaaki Greatness. We celebrate those who consistently uplift and contribute to our kura and community.
Manaaki Recognition
This in-school initiative highlights students who consistently uphold our values across the term. Nominated by staff, these ākonga receive a letter acknowledging their contribution, sent to both them and their whānau. Consistent recognition leads toward the Manaaki Gold Badge, awarded at our end-of-year celebration.
Manaaki in Action
Whether supporting others, volunteering time, or representing the school with pride, our ākonga often shine outside the classroom too. Manaaki in Action celebrates these efforts on our school social media. Nominations are welcome from staff, whānau, and the community.

Manaaki Greatness
Sponsored by Northern Union and Hoyts Hibiscus Coast, this award celebrates extraordinary examples of manaaki shown by or within the wider Orewa College community. Anyone: staff, students, or community members can make a nomination. This recognition reminds us that he waka eke noa. We’re all in this together.
