How You Can Celebrate Matariki with Orewa College

Celebrate Matariki with Orewa College and local kura through kapa haka and pasifika performance, remembrance, and whanaungatanga.

Matariki Celebration – Thursday 19 June, 1:00pm

A time to remember, reflect, and reconnect

Matariki at Orewa College is a time of honouring both the past and the promise of what lies ahead.

This year, our kura proudly welcomes Whangaparāoa College and Mahurangi College to join in the celebrations. We invite you to the Orewa Arts and Events Centre (OAEC) from 1:00pm on Thursday 19 June for an afternoon of cultural performance, shared remembrance, and deep connection. Please note that school closes at 12:00pm on this day to accommodate the celebration.

“We celebrate not only Matariki but each other,” says kaiako Haimona Koziarski. “It’s a time for whanaungatanga.”

The programme begins with a pōwhiri and unfolds with performances from kapa haka and Pasifika groups representing all three kura. As the stars of Matariki rise, so too does our collective spirit.
