A stellar second place for Orewa College in the NorthWest Readers Cup.
Four keen readers put their knowledge to the test after ten weeks of prep
On the evening of 18 June, four Year 9 ākonga, Lucas Gardner, Issy Crossman, Michaela Flynn and Samaira Chauhan, represented Orewa College in the NorthWest Readers Cup Competition at Te Manawa Public Library.
Over ten weeks, the team worked hard to prepare. They read six selected novels and spent many lunchtimes in the Library (and plenty of their own time) revising, quizzing each other, and discussing plot twists. Their effort paid off, with the team coming away with a well-earned 2nd place out of 11 schools.
A big thanks to Sofia Brown and Emi Miranda for their support during the lead-up to the event.
The set reading list included:
Mars Awakens by HM Waugh
The Door of No Return by Kwame Alexander
The Night Diary by Veera Hiranandani
96 Miles by JL Esplin
The Traitor and the Thief by Gareth Ward
The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
All six titles are available from the Orewa College Library for those keen to dive in.
Well done to our Readers Cup team on their fantastic achievement.
