Kapa haka leads Matariki celebration with pride

On Thursday 19 June, the Orewa Arts and Events Centre was filled with aroha, waiata, and mana as our kapa haka rōpū led a powerful celebration for Matariki Fia Fia 2025.

Whānau from Whangaparāoa College and Mahurangi College joined our kura for a night that honoured Te Ao Māori and the tradition of Matariki. 

Our Matariki festival came to life through powerful kapa haka led by Orewa College, captured beautifully by Media Squad leader Megan Postlewaight and Georgia Sparks. Their photos reflect the mana of the rōpū in full flight. This video, created by teacher Ralph Zamora, captures the spirit of the Matariki Festival and the power of kapa haka.
