Student Raina Baek leads the way with Auckland-wide enviro action
Year 10 ākonga speaks at Manukau Harbour Symposium and helps launch climate resilience art competition
Student Raina Baek, a Year 10 ākonga and long-time member of Orewa College’s Enviro Group, is taking her passion for the environment to the next level. In Term 1, she was invited to join the REAL Programme (Rangatahi Enviro Action Leaders), a course for Year 10–13 students across Tāmaki Makaurau.
“Although I was the youngest in the programme, I stayed curious and engaged,” Raina shared. That commitment led to her selection for the Greenfluence Collective, a student leadership group made up of representatives from nine schools across Auckland.
As part of the group, Raina had the opportunity to speak at the Manukau Harbour Symposium, where she presented the group’s student-led initiative: an art competition focused on environmental awareness. “The experience helped me grow and gave me a chance to learn from professionals in the environmental field,” she said.
Now, the Greenfluence Collective Art Competition is live and all ākonga at Orewa College are encouraged to take part.
