Junior Girls Football team climbs leaderboard with strong performances against Takapuna and Northcote
Orewa College’s Junior Girls Football team (Year 9 and 10) are on a winning streak, celebrating two impressive results in recent weeks.
They opened with a thrilling 7–5 victory over Takapuna Grammar on Wednesday, 23 July. The fast-paced, high-scoring match saw all 16 players step on the field and play their part. That was followed by a dominating 9–0 performance over Northcote. Their biggest scoreline of the season so far.
These results have bumped the team up to fifth out of eleven on the leaderboard.
Centre-back Elise Chapman said it was “a relief to be back after two games were rained off earlier in the season”. New team member Zaynab Emad showed calm nerves, slotting in a penalty against Takapuna, while Millie Hull is playing on despite a broken arm.
Teacher in charge Cecilia Tyne praised the group’s attitude and singled out Macy Martin Dean as “an exceptional player”. She said “the team always brings enthusiasm and a love for the game.”
Ngā mihi to parent coach Paul Scantlebury for supporting the players and making sure everyone gets valuable game time.
