Students met local employers and training providers at Orewa College’s Careers Expo Evening on August 5.

Orewa College students connect with local businesses

Orewa College students had the chance to explore future pathways at our Careers Expo Evening, held Tuesday 5 August at the Orewa Arts & Events Centre.

Nine local businesses, including Bunnings, Paperspaces, and Bayleys Real Estate, came along to share what they do and answer questions. They were joined by several training providers from across Tāmaki Makaurau, with the New Zealand Defence Force proving especially popular.

The evening built on the Term 2 North Shore Careers Expo, offering more direct connections with potential employers. These connections matter. Research shows young people with four or more employer interactions are five times less likely to be unemployed.

It was a valuable evening of learning, with ākonga discovering career pathways, asking great questions, and exploring options that match their interests. Engaging with local businesses also helped highlight future opportunities right here in our community.
