Nepia House takes top honours in the 2025 House Film Festival at Orewa College.

Fast Film challenge sees filmmaking shine in a race against time

Congratulations to all our creative ākonga who took part in this year’s House Film Festival. The 2025 challenge asked students from Years 7 to 13 to tell a story from the perspective of a random object.

Teams of around twelve students had just two days to film and one day to edit their short films, all captured on iPhones. Writers had a week’s head start to prepare scripts based on the unique theme.

Final entries were screened at House Assemblies in the Orewa Arts & Events Centre on Monday 18 August. The results were close, but Nepia House came out on top, followed by McLaren, Batten, Sheppard, and Blake.

The energy, teamwork, and storytelling on display were outstanding. As staff member Joel Dickinson said, “All teams did an outstanding job considering it was only two days.”
