Class of 2000 Returns for Reunion

Fifty alumni from the class of 2000 gathered in Ōrewa for a 25-year reunion, reconnecting with classmates and kura life.

Former students return from across the world for a heartwarming 25-year reunion

Fifty former ākonga returned to Orewa College over the weekend to celebrate 25 years since graduation, with many travelling from Australia, Canada and further afield to reconnect with old friends and teachers.

The reunion began at the Ōrewa Surf Club, where name tags and warm greetings sparked memories and laughter. From there, the group crossed Rainbow Bridge and returned to their old stomping grounds for a guided tour of the kura. Familiar classrooms, shared stories and long-forgotten memories brought the college years vividly back to life.

A group photo at the front gates captured the spirit of the day before everyone returned to the Surf Club for kai, music and well-overdue conversations. Even more classmates joined in by video call, making the reunion a truly global gathering.

“None of us could believe that 25 years had passed,” said alumna and current teacher Tanja Spaabaek. “We all felt extremely lucky to be a part of the Ōrewa College whānau.”

Special thanks to Tanja Spaabaek and Greg Campbell for their care and mahi in organising such a memorable event.
