Remembering Beryl Blucher

Beryl Blucher, Orewa College's Head of Humanities, passed away on December 8, 2025, after 40 years of dedicated service to the community.

Kia ora e te whānau o Orewa College,

It is with great sadness that we share the news that one of our long-standing leaders of our school, Beryl Blucher, passed away on Monday. We received the news that evening, along with the comfort that she was surrounded by her whānau and loved ones in her last moments.

Beryl’s passing will be felt deeply across our community. Her illness progressed very quickly, which is difficult to comprehend for many who were working alongside her and still in close contact with her only weeks ago.

We want to acknowledge the leadership and dedication Beryl gave to us. She dedicated up to 40 years of service to Orewa College and our school community. She began teaching here in February 1985 and became the Head of Social Science in 1997, a role in which she influenced countless generations of students and staff. Her passion for teaching and education, her commitment to her students, and her belief in the importance of social sciences left a lasting impact on our kura.

As we will continue to reflect on her career, we will be reminded of how exceptional she was as an educational leader.

We know many in our community, past and present, will have fond memories of Beryl as a mentor, colleague, or teacher who inspired a love for learning, and cared deeply about her students.

Our thoughts and aroha are with Beryl’s friends and family at this time.

Ngā manaakitanga,

Orewa College
