Competing in Under 13 and Under 17 fleets in Australia and New Zealand over the summer break

Over the Christmas break, Orewa College sailor Summer Torbet competed at the 2026 Australian Open Skiff Nationals in Australia as part of her preparation for the upcoming World Championships.

Summer sailed across both the Under 13 and Under 17 divisions at the regatta, which attracted a high-level international field. In the Under 13 fleet, she finished first female and third overall. She also competed in the Under 17 division, placing fifth female and eleventh overall.

The Australian Open Skiff Nationals formed part of Summer’s build-up towards the World Championships, which will be held in Australia from 26 December to 27 January.

Following six days of sailing in Sydney, Summer returned to New Zealand late on Sunday night before heading back onto the water the next day at the Auckland Anniversary Regatta. Competing again in the Under 17 division, she finished first female and second overall.

Summer’s summer sailing programme has included competition across multiple age groups and back-to-back regattas in Australia and New Zealand as she continues her preparation for the World Championships.
