Orewa College’s Manukura Breakfast brought together whānau, staff and alumni to support current student leaders
Organised by Deputy Principal Linda Rubens, the event focused on the responsibility that comes with leadership at the kura. Former Head Prefect and alumnus Nathan Norrie encouraged students to prioritise people over outcomes, reminding them that “as a leader your job isn’t to drive outcomes it’s to notice and nurture those who struggle.”
Current Manukura Alex Bakhshok urged his peers to “do the hard work especially when you don’t feel like it.” Principal Wiri Warriner spoke about the weight of the role, describing leadership as a 24/7 commitment and reminding students that their words and actions shape the growth of the school.
The message across the morning was clear. At Orewa College, leadership is lived daily through responsibility and care for others.
