Young athlete builds success through training across three water sports
Orewa College student Hudson is building a strong multi-sport pathway through water polo, surf life saving, and swimming while continuing to represent the kura across several competitions.
Hudson currently plays water polo with North Harbour’s Under 14 Division 1 Black team. The club fielded two teams at the national championships this season, finishing first and fifth overall.
His performances have also led to selection for the North Harbour Hawaii Touring Team and the Junior Elite Programme. Coaches have noted his versatility in the pool and his “team-first” approach while playing as a Utility.
At school level, Hudson was part of the Orewa College Year 7 and 8 water polo team that won the 2025 North Harbour B Grade tournament and finished third at the North Island Championships. The team was supported by coaches Jade White and Jenny Watson.
Hudson also competes in surf life saving with Red Beach Surf Life Saving Club. At events in Omaha and Ruakaka he achieved two individual podium finishes and another as part of a team across sprint, swimming, and rescue disciplines.
Training with Coast Swim Club at Northern Arena remains central to his development, with a focus on qualifying for the New Zealand Age Group Championships. Hudson is also preparing for the Hawaii International Water Polo Tournament and the upcoming Year 9 and 10 sporting season.
