Design folio exploring road safety recognised among top NCEA portfolios nationwide

Orewa College student Jaehee Kim has been selected for the national NCEA Top Art exhibition with his Design folio Road Safety.

Top Art is an annual exhibition showcasing outstanding NCEA Level 3 Visual Arts portfolios from across Aotearoa. Only 21 boards are selected in each discipline, including Photography, Design, Painting, Sculpture, and Design Moving Image, making inclusion a significant national recognition.

Jaehee’s folio was developed during the school year as part of his work in the Orewa College Visual Art Department. The project explores road and car safety through considered design processes and clear visual communication.

Design teacher Ms Jenny White said the recognition reflects the commitment Jaehee showed throughout the year. “I am incredibly proud of Jaehee’s dedication throughout his folio process. He worked diligently to strengthen and clarify his ideas, and watching that growth has been incredibly rewarding. This recognition is so well deserved.”

The Top Art exhibition will travel around Aotearoa until October through three touring collections named Pōhutukawa, Pīwakawaka, and Kauri, allowing communities across the country to view selected student work.

Jaehee’s achievement highlights the strength of design thinking and visual communication developed through the Orewa College Visual Arts programme.
