Orewa College students have recorded strong early results in the regional Orienteering Sprint Series, with competitors from Year 7 through to senior levels taking part across the first three rounds.

Sprint orienteering is a fast paced format that challenges competitors to navigate short technical courses while maintaining speed and accuracy.

Several students have achieved podium finishes in the opening events. Matt Dodds placed first in Year 8 Boys, while Harper Tipene recorded two second place finishes in the Year 11 Girls category. Cleo Machold placed first and third across two rounds in the same division.

Other podium results included Farrah Sweeney finishing third in Year 8 Girls, Naia Carson Neufeld placing third in Year 9 Girls, Jordan Hefer taking second in Year 7 Girls, and Oliver McDonald finishing second in Year 7 Boys.

A number of other Orewa College competitors have placed inside the top ten in competitive fields, highlighting the growing participation in the school’s orienteering programme.

Parents and families continue to support the programme through transport and encouragement at weekly events held across the region

With several rounds still to come, students will continue building their navigation skills and race experience throughout the remainder of the series.
