Batten wins House Party Day at Orewa College on 13 March after an afternoon of races, slip ’n slides and tug of war involving all five houses.
Whole-school House Party Day brings students together for races, games and house pride
Orewa College came together on Friday 13 March for House Party Day, with students from all five houses taking part in a lively afternoon of events and activities before an early finish.
The programme included races, slip ’n slides and tug-of-war, with friendly rivalry building across the field as each house worked to earn points for their team. After a full afternoon of competition, the final standings placed Batten in first place, followed by Blake in second, McLaren in third, Nepia in fourth and Sheppard in fifth.
Batten’s win continues a strong run of results this year, backing up their earlier Waka Race victory with another house competition title. The result also marked a change in fortunes for Sheppard, who won House Party last year but finished fifth in this year’s event.
Despite weather warnings earlier in the week, participation remained high throughout the afternoon. Principal Wiri Warriner said it was encouraging to see the house system in action across the school. “It was great to see the House system in full swing and so many students getting involved,” he said.
Behind the scenes, the Media Squad also played a role in documenting the day. Working in teams of five photographers, students were tasked with covering each house evenly while capturing key moments across the events. Some focused on photographing activities, while others returned to the media suite to upload images and assemble short vertical videos.
By the end of the weekend, photos and clips from the day were already appearing online, helping share the story of House Party 2026 with the wider school community.
Events like House Party continue to build connections across year levels and give students opportunities to represent their houses with pride.
The college acknowledges the work of Joel Dickinson and the house leadership team, Matt Harrison, Mel Ibbett, Lou Heck, Mark Freeman and Deli Franklin, along with staff who supported the event.
